The Essential Packing List for Your Week-Long RV Adventure
Getting ready for your first big trip with Scamper RV? Whether you're heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains or cruising down to the coast, packing for an RV trip is a little different than packing for a hotel stay. You have the freedom of a home on wheels, but space is premium!
Here is our curated guide to packing smart for a week-long adventure in one of our camper vans or travel trailers.
1. The "Must-Haves" (Don't Leave Home Without These!)
While our rentals come equipped with the basics, these personal items are non-negotiable for a smooth trip:
- Driver's License & Insurance Info: You'll need these for pickup.
- Flashlights & Headlamps: Even if you have campsite hookups, you'll want hands-free light for late-night campfire setups or walking the dog.
- First Aid Kit: Band-aids, antiseptic, bug spray, and sunscreen.
- Chargers & Power Banks: Keep your devices juiced up for navigation and photos.
2. Kitchen & Cooking Essentials
We provide the basics, but if you plan on gourmet campsite meals, consider bringing:
- Your Favorite Spices: We recommend a small travel spice kit (salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc.) so you don't have to buy full bottles.
- Coffee & Filters: There's nothing like a hot cup of joe on a crisp morning. Bring your preferred grounds.
- Paper Towels & Ziploc Bags: Essential for quick cleanups and storing leftover s'mores ingredients.
- Reusable Water Bottles: Stay hydrated while hiking without creating plastic waste.
3. Bedding & Linens
Check your specific rental agreement, but generally, you'll want to bring:
- Pillows: We find that people sleep best with their own pillows from home!
- Sleeping Bags or Sheets: If you're renting a van, a sleeping bag can be easier to manage than full sheets, but it's up to your comfort preference.
- Quick-Dry Towels: These take up less space than fluffy bath towels and dry much faster in a camper environment.
4. Clothing: Pack Layers!
Georgia weather can be unpredictable. The mountains might be 20 degrees cooler than the city.
- Base Layers: T-shirts and breathable fabrics.
- Insulating Layer: A good fleece or hoodie for evenings.
- Outer Shell: A rain jacket is crucial. Even if the forecast looks clear, mountain showers pop up fast.
- Slip-on Shoes: You'll be going in and out of the RV constantly. Crocs, sandals, or slip-on boots are a lifesaver so you don't track dirt inside.
5. Outdoor Gear
- Camp Chairs: We offer these as add-ons, but feel free to bring your own favorite comfy chair.
- Firewood: Buy this locally near your campsite to prevent spreading invasive species, but bring a lighter or matches!
- Pet Gear: If you're bringing a furry friend (we love dogs!), don't forget their leash, bowl, and bed.
Pro Tip: Soft Bags vs. Hard Suitcases
This is the #1 rookie mistake! Do not bring hard-shell suitcases. They are impossible to store in a camper van. Pack your gear in soft duffel bags or backpacks that can be squished into cabinets or under seats once unpacked.
What We Provide
Remember, all Scamper RV rentals come with standard hookup hoses (water/sewer) and electrical adapters. You don't need to worry about the technical "RV stuff"—we've got that covered!
